Think Greensboro is just another Southern city? Think again.

Here’s the scoop: this North Carolina hub is shaking off its old-school textile and tobacco image and emerging as an economic and cultural powerhouse. With a population topping 300,000, Greensboro is flexing its muscle in sectors like finance, insurance, and—hold onto your hats—a $1.3 billion Toyota battery plant.
Education: Seven colleges, including two historic HBCUs, keep the city buzzing with brainpower and fresh ideas.
Culture: World-class museums, theaters, and quirky annual festivals mean you’re never short on things to do—or stories to tell.
Housing: Median home values have jumped nearly 20% in a year, yet the cost of living stays friendly—up to 10% cheaper than Austin and Atlanta.
Location, location: Sitting at the crossroads of Interstates 40, 85, and 73, Greensboro deserves its “Gate City” nickname, making logistics and commuting a breeze.
Why you should care: The city’s smart mix of affordable living, economic diversification, and cultural charm is turning it into the kind of place where people want to live and businesses want to set up shop. It’s a case study in how mid-sized cities can punch above their weight.
What’s next: Keep an eye on the battery plant’s impact, ongoing downtown redevelopment projects, and how Greensboro leverages its educational institutions to attract even more startups and talent. Spoiler: This isn’t your grandparents’ Greensboro anymore.
USING AI
AI Has Already Written Nearly 1 in 10 Newspaper Stories—And Nobody’s Telling You

Think AI is still just a sci-fi fantasy when it comes to writing the news? Think again.
A fresh study from University of Maryland computer scientists dropped a bombshell: more than 9% of U.S. newspaper articles now include AI-generated text—and most outlets aren’t shouting that from the rooftops.
Researchers analyzed a whopping 186,000 articles from 1,500 newspapers nationwide.
Only 1.7% of articles from big-city dailies (circulation over 100,000) had AI content, but smaller papers weren’t so lucky—almost 10% of their stories were AI-assisted.
Disclosure? Practically non-existent. Just 5 out of 100 manually checked articles mentioned AI involvement.
Policies about AI use? Only 7 newspapers have them—meaning most readers have no clue if a bot wrote their news.
Corporate-owned papers lean heavily on AI. Boone News Media hit 20.9% AI content, Advance Publications clocked in at 13.4%.
Why should you care? Because transparency is the lifeblood of trust—and if you don’t know what’s human and what’s machine, that trust might erode faster than your morning coffee disappears.
What’s next? As AI’s newsroom footprint grows, expect more calls (and maybe regulations) for clear labels and policies on AI-written content. Until then, keep your skeptical eye peeled every time you read that “breaking news.”
